A poem by William Carlos William
William Carlos Williams' poetry books include Al Que Quiere! (1917) and Journey to Love (1953). His concerns come across in several of his remarks, such as: "All art begins in the local" and "Rigour of beauty is the quest."
As a medical student at the University of Pennsylvania, Williams began a lifelong friendship with Pound who was a special student there. Williams became head paediatrician at the General Hospital in Paterson, and his autobiography (1951) relates to his medical experiences treating his largely working class patients.
This is just to say
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the ice box
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast

they were delicious
